Call Number Browse

If you know the call number of the item you wish to find, you can switch to a call number search from Advanced Catalog Search by clicking Call Number Browse.

  1. In the Call Number box, type in the item's call number.
  2. If available, you can select a library to search under in the Library box. You cannot browse multiple libraries or branches for a call number.
  3. If available, you can select a Shelving Scheme, such as Dewey decimal system or others available for your library.
  4. If available, you can select the catalog record item Type or Group, if known.
  5. If available, you can select a library shelving location to search under in the Location box.
  6. Click Search to begin the call number search.

The call number is assigned to an item according to the classification scheme of your library. The call number determines an item's placement in the library collection and allows you to "browse" the library shelves while seated at the computer. For example, a search for PZ3 limited to a single library and to the Library of Congress shelving scheme could produce the following results.
